Things have been tough for Linus Ullmark lately. Until late December, he was in solid form. Through 28 games, he had a 14-8-5 record with a 2.95 GAA and an .881 save percentage. While a .900 save percentage wasn’t ideal, the rest of his numbers were strong.

In fact, in his last five starts before the Toronto game, he went 4-0-1. In that stretch, he had stopped 112 of 122 shots. Not elite, but steady.

Against the Maple Leafs, Ullmark Played a Poor Game

The Maple Leafs visited on December 27. Toronto came out flying—goal at 40 seconds—and by the second period, Ullmark had let in four on 14 shots. Leevi Merilainen took over, and the team lost 7-5. It wasn’t Ullmark’s best night.

Ullmark was placed on personal leave the next day. The Senators didn’t say how long, so Merilainen handled most of the starts while Mads Sogaard got the call from Belleville.

Ullmark Has Been Removed from the Senators’ Roster

Ullmak has been removed from the roster for now, clearing a spot for Eller to come off IR. The Senators haven’t said why the move was made. Whatever the reason, it’s Sogaard and Merilainen holding things down in the net.

It’s a strange situation for Ullmark. He's a goalie who had been doing fine, and it leaves a lot of questions. Will he come back? When? And what does this mean for Ottawa’s netminding in the future? For now, the spotlight is on the guys filling in, and fans are left waiting for answers.
